Weekly Report #7

9/30/18-10/8/18

This week was jam-packed as we were introduced to the Original Work and attended the Business Symposium. The latter was definitely a memorable experience due to the opportunity to interact with various professionals in a low-stakes environment. There was much nervousness to be felt at first when walking throughout the room, but after a while, it was very comfortable. The professionals that interviewed were very helpful by giving advice on how to present oneself in front of the experts in the field and even giving helpful tips on the resume. Even interacting with the current and second-year independent study students was helpful as a contact of a peer’s teacher who had prior experience in the forensics field was received. This caused me to reflect upon the way I was currently approaching tasks and handling situations and change it so that it would be viewed by others as more professional.

After Business Symposium, calls began to be made to the people in the field. After calling five professionals, I was able to successfully land an interview with Dr. Mitchell Dunn, a forensic psychiatrist in Dallas, next Friday. This has caused much excitement for the week to come as I begin to finetune questions to ask and finalize the resume. The goals for this week are to begin developing an idea for the original work by letting the questions about the topic guide me, and practice professional etiquette in time for the interview Friday.
